📌 Overview

Shree Renuka Mata Mandir is a famous pilgrimage destination located in Chandwad, around 65 km from Nashik. The temple is dedicated to Goddess Renuka Mata, the mother of Lord Parashurama, and is visited by thousands of devotees throughout the year. Surrounded by peaceful hills and a spiritual atmosphere, this temple holds great religious significance for followers of Hinduism.

📜 History / Importance

According to ancient legends, Renuka Mata is believed to have appeared in Chandwad after a divine incident involving Rishi Parashurama and his parents. As per the traditional story, sage Jamadagni asked his son Parashurama to obey his command and separate Renuka Mata’s head from her body. It is said that the head fell in Chandwad, while the body fell in Mahur, making both places important Shakti Peethas.

The current temple structure is believed to be built in 1782 by Sardar Rangrao Odhekar on the site of an older wooden shrine. Historical records mention that nearly 2000 workers were involved daily, and the construction took about 12 years. The temple’s design, high stone walls, and spacious courtyard make it one of the notable religious sites in the region.

Inside the complex, there is also a beautifully maintained space dedicated to Lord Rama, Sita, and Lakshmana, featuring black-stone idols approximately two feet tall. The annual Ram Navami festival, celebrated during Chaitra (March–April), attracts large crowds.
